Reconciliation Australia reminds us that, “Reconciliation takes action, urges the reconciliation movement towards braver and more impactful action.
“Reconciliation is a journey for all Australians – as individuals, families, communities, organisations and importantly as a nation. At the heart of this journey are relationships between the broader Australian community and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.”
In the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle there are a range of initiatives underway but also, much work to be done. Some of our key work is summarised below.
The Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle vision for reconciliation is to follow the Catholic Social Justice Teaching; to promote a vision of a just society that is grounded in biblical revelations, and principals to End Poverty, Promote Justice, Uphold dignity, Love of God, and Love of Neighbour.
