St Joseph's Primary School, Charlestown aims to provide quality Catholic education by teaching core values of Striving High, Living Like Jesus and Caring for our Environment. These values are embedded every day both in the classroom and on the playground. Our school community is committed to ensuring every child is given the opportunity to achieve their very best and reach their full potential.
The school’s unique lush bush setting provides a stimulating environment for children to learn and play and gives them the opportunity to develop an awareness and appreciation of the environment. The vast play spaces ensure a variety of outdoor activities can be enjoyed including a loose parts play area where the imagination can be used to build, create and manipulate natural resources.
The school is purpose-built to facilitate team teaching and gives teachers the opportunity to work collaboratively in their planning and delivery of learning. The refurbishment of existing facilities means the school community is equipped with modern and engaging learning environments to allow the delivery of a comprehensive curriculum. The large open plan classrooms are equipped with interactive SMARTboards, iPads, laptops and wireless internet to deliver a contemporary learning approach and help students with diverse learning needs.
St Joseph’s offers a range of sports across both their internal and external sporting program, giving students the opportunity to compete at representative level in swimming, cross country, athletics, netball, tennis, soccer, rugby league, rugby union, touch football, AFL, cricket, basketball, hockey and softball. The school also runs a weekly in-school sports program where students can participate in gymnastics, dance, tennis and basketball.
St Joseph’s has a strong Anti-Bullying culture and works constantly to provide a safe and inclusive environment for all students. Our Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) approach promotes enhanced social and emotional regulation and positive behaviour management across the school. St Joseph’s uses the award winning Bounce Back program as part of the Personal Development and Health curriculum to teach resilience, social and emotional learning and ensures student wellbeing is a priority. The school provides regular parent information evenings on relevant topics throughout the year such as cybersafety, dealing with anxiety in children and understanding puberty and relationships.
