St Benedict's Primary School, Edgeworth provides a learning environment in which the full range of student needs can be addressed in academic, pastoral and co-curricular programs.
St Benedict's provides an inclusive atmosphere that is open and friendly and encourages curiosity, determination, independent learning and self-confidence. The dedicated and hard-working teaching and support staff foster a collaborative learning culture and deliver learning programs that tailor to the individual needs of all students.
All curriculum areas are well supported with Literacy, PDHPE and Information Technology seen as the school’s strengths.
Participation, fun and skill development are the cornerstones of the sport and physical activity program at St Benedict’s, with students having the opportunity to compete at representative level in a variety of sports including swimming, cross country, athletics, gymnastics, netball, tennis, soccer, rugby league, hockey, rugby union, touch football and equestrian events. Students also have the opportunity to represent the school in competitions including the Knights Rugby League Knockout, the Maitland/Newcastle Diocesan Netball Gala and the Lakes Regional Soccer Gala. An 8-week intensive sporting skills program is also available to students through Sport in Schools, Australia.
The school’s comprehensive peer support program allows Year 6 students to demonstrate their leadership skills and provide guidance and support for their peers. The Seasons for Growth, You Can Do It and self-esteem programs improve the student’s social and emotional skills, while the personal development Rock and Water program allows senior students to prepare for high school.
Throughout the year the school also gives support to national agencies like Catholic Mission, Caritas and St Vincent de Paul.
St Benedict’s enables students to develop an awareness and understanding of Aboriginal culture and supports Aboriginal students to strive for better educational outcomes. The program offered also assists students to develop tolerance towards others of many different cultural backgrounds and links the school to the local indigenous community.
A childcare service is provided at St Benedict’s from Monday to Friday from 6.30am to 8.30am in the morning and 3.00pm to 6.00pm in the afternoon. Vacation Care is also available in the school holidays from Monday to Friday from 7.30am to 5.30pm.
Students of St Benedict's Primary School, Edgeworth are encouraged to continue their Catholic education for Years 7 to 12 by attending St Paul's Catholic College, Booragul.
